Description Summary:
The Patient Care Sitter role is a position providing support to the patient care team as well as directly attending to certain, specified needs of the patient.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1.0 The Patient Care Sitter provides constant observation and monitoring of assigned patients to ensure safety and prevention of injury.

1.1 Receives report from exiting PCS or RN including any patient specific behaviors to monitor.
1.2 Courteously greets patients, identifies self, and explains purpose.
1.3 Ensures patient’s safety
1.4 Observes and reports to the RN all patient concerns or changes in condition.
1.5 Promptly calls for assistance as needed.
1.6 Provides care within scope of practice.
1.7 Assists patient to restroom. Walks patient in corridor as needed.
1.8 Does not leave patient unless relieved by another staff member.
1.9 Notifies RN if tubes, IV, catheter, etc. become disconnected.
1.10 Reports defective equipment to CN.



2.0 Accompanies patient off the unit for all tests or procedures.

2.1 Accompanies the patient to other areas of the Hospital for diagnostic tests or upon transfer to other units.
2.2 Transports lab specimens, patient equipment and patient belongings as required with the patient.



3.0 Maintains a safe, orderly and well equipped environment.

3.1 Keeps patient room neat and orderly.
3.2 Evaluates patient’s environment for possible hazards and removes those hazards.


4.0 Promotes infection control.

4.1 Washes hands before and after patient contact.
4.2 Follows isolation procedures according to the Infection Control Policy.

5.0 Competently utilizes technology.

5.1 Demonstrates understanding of the use of unit technology i.e. call systems, bed controls
and TV controls.


6.0 Other duties/projects as assigned.

Position Requirements Minimum Qualification:
• High school diploma or GED is preferred, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
• Successful completion of the Functional Capacity Exam.
• Physical Requirements.
o Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
o Be able to walk for periods of time.
o Positioning and lifting of patients’ weighing 50 pounds.
o Pushing/pulling carts or beds weighing up to 200 pounds.

• Successful completion of Hospital Patient Care Sitter training course within 90 days of employment.
• Completion of Heart Saver CPR within 90 days of employment.
