Description Support Associate Summary:
The Support Associate role is a position providing support to the patient care team as well as directly attending to certain, specified needs of the patient. The Support Associate performs the transportation of patients to and from testing areas and other areas as needed. The Support Associate also transports various items throughout the facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1.0 Escorts patients or items safely to the appropriate departments in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Skilled Nursing Facility, Physician Office Center, Cancer Center and Health Sciences Center.

1.1 Courteously greets patients, identifies self, and then assists in preparing the patient for transport from the department.
1.2 Monitors the integrity of patient's monitoring and invasive devices at all times during transport, and intervenes in emergency situations to ensure patient safety.
1.3 Responsible for transporting patients with oxygen, including handling and storage of oxygen.
1.4 Observes and reports to the RN all patient concerns or changes in condition while in transport.
1.5 Promptly communicates return of patient to the RN.
1.6 Disinfects wheelchairs and stretchers, after each use.
1.7 Upon discharge, identifies and safely assists with the transport of patient and patient's possessions to discharge vehicles.
1.8 Provides total care within scope of practice (positioning, tray set up, and assist with activity) when assigned sitter or constant visual responsibilities.
1.9 Transports patients and items to and from all areas of the WVUH Campus in a safe and timely manner.

2.0 Must be able to use the patient transport dispatching system according to the guidelines set up by the Department Manager.




3.0 Maintains proper oxygen tank levels on each unit daily.


4.0 Positions wheelchairs and stretchers back to place of origin.


5.0 Other duties/projects as assigned.

Unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP) may have limited access to medications including during transport of non-controlled substances at the request of a licensed care provider.

Position Requirements • High school diploma or GED is preferred, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
• Physical Requirements.
o Heavy/Hard work: Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing.
o Walking for long periods of time.
o Positioning and lifting of patients’ weighing 50 pounds.
o Materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
o Pushing/pulling carts weighing up to 200 pounds.
• Successful completion of Hospital Support Associate training course within 3 weeks of employment.
• Completion of Heart Saver CPR within 4 weeks of employment.
• Successful completion of the Functional Capacity Exam.
