Description Sterile Processing Tech Summary:
Receives, cleans, decontaminates and sterilize reusable patient care equipment, instrumentation
and supplies. Disassembles, inspects, inventories and assembles both surgical and house
instrumentation and procedural trays. Maintains adequate inventory levels for all surgical/house instrumentation/trays and supplies. Assembles surgical case carts as required. Records and maintains required sterilization records under the supervision of a CRCST or RCST.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1 In accordance with departmental policy and procedure, infection control standards and state and federal regulations clean, decontaminate, assemble and sterilize all reusable patient care equipment.


2 In accordance with departmental policy and procedures safely and efficiently operate all sterilization and decontamination equipment.


3 In accordance with departmental policy and procedure inspects, assembles and sterilize all surgical and house instrumentation used throughout WVUH.


4 Accurately restock case carts with supplies, instrumentation and equipment as indicated by pick list generated from daily surgical schedule.


5 Accurately restocks Surgical Services including the Outpatient Services and Labor & Delivery supply, specialty carts and top track.


6 Stages and delivers case carts, stocking carts and equipment via clean cart lift, clean or services elevator.

7 Inventories and maintains adequate levels of all instrumentation and sterile supplies utilized throughout WVUH.


8 In accordance with set policy and procedure reports and records missing and/or damaged instrumentation/equipment.


9 Serves as initial contact for all departmental inquiries from customers.


10 Answers, records and responds to all requests via phone and/or in person in a courteous and professional manner. Phone request are to be answered within four (4) rings.


11 Responsible for receiving returned items and properly recording and returning items to inventory.


12 Maintains work areas in a clean, neat and orderly fashion on a daily basis.


13 Attends regularly scheduled in-services.


14 Participates in the cross training for new Surgical Instrumentation and equipment.


15 Other related duties as assigned.

• Must understand and practice excellent personal hygiene.

Position Requirements High School diploma

Must enroll in the IAHCSMM course, via Purdue University at the end of probation period.
Within 18 months of hire, must become a Registered Central Service Technician to
maintain employment.
